Week 2's B1G Power Rankings Fixes the Cable

Week 2's power rankings feature two ties among 5 of the top 9 teams in the conference. I would seem the Big Ten West is one big log jam...hence the title and pic used for this post. Lebowski-heads will understand the reference.

Bowl orders and opponents are yet to be determined.

1. Ohio State
Yep, still good.

2. Michigan State
After the slow start versus Western Michigan, there were doubts. Those doubts were erased last week after the big home win against Oregon in primetime. Could they easily have lost? Sure. Is anyone else besides Ohio State deserved to be ranked higher than them? Nope.

T-3. Wisconsin
What's the best antidote for losing to Alabama in an opening game? How about Miami (not that Miami)? Good old NTM. Maybe the worst team in the MAC...and Wisconsin sure treated them as such. A couple more non-conf foes to help heal their crimson wounds.

T-3. Minnesota
Avoided an 0-2 start when Colorado State imploded in overtime...that moves the Gophers down a peg to a 3-way tie for 3rd. Still have the potential to be the best squad in the west, but like their fellow division contenders, they'll have to earn it the hard way.

T-3. Nebraska
After the hail-mary to open the season 0-1, the Huskers did what you're supposed to do against a bad team like South Alabama. Nebraska got the win, and South Alabama funded their entire athletic program for another year.

6. Northwestern
OK, I'll bite. I wasn't sure if Northwestern's upset of Stanford was a fluke or not (still not sure, really), but they dismantled a bad Eastern Illinois team last week and that earns them the bump to #6 this week. We'll see how well NW travels when they head to Duke this week.

7. Michigan
Steady at #7. Good win against an average P5 team. UNLV won't be as good of a test, but for this Michigan team, they need a chance to sharpen their skills against a sacrificial lamb. Really all I'm looking for is for Michigan to look sharp and focused...something that has eluded them in games like this recently.

T-8. Iowa
Before the season it was if Iowa wasn't even going to exist in the west division race, but here they are, 2-0 and looking like a team with a pulse. Good test with Pitt coming to town this weekend.

T-8. Illinois
I don't know what's going on in the B1G west, but it seems like pretty much anyone other than Purdue has a legit shot at the division. Illinois will likely slide back into their usual ways here in another month or so, but one thing is for sure...Bill Cubit is a much more capable coach than Tim Beckman ever was.

If your team was not listed above, hang your head in shame. Hang it!
