There's been no official confirmation of the rumored resignation by Brandon, but these two things are most certainly related. It would seem that a resignation would fit rather than an outright firing. I'm sure both sides negotiated a settlement in order for the University to not pay Brandon's entire $3 million buyout and for Brandon to save some face.
Either way, in order for a proper coaching search to take place, the first step was to axe Brandon and name a successor…which may or may not happen today. There's been plenty of speculation about possible AD candidates being contacted.
