Recruiting, Injuries and Player News

At Rodriguez's presser today...which was short and sweet, he said that WR Greg Matthews and defensive end Ryan Van Bergan are both day-to-day. Probably just banged up a little bit...I'd look for both of them to be back in the Big House this Saturday. Neither will be moved from our depth chart just yet.

Freshman Justin Feagin is going to red-shirt this year. No reason was given...but it's pretty obvious from what we've heard from fall camp in August...he's just not where he needs to be mentally to run this offense. (Insert joke about Threet and Sherridan here). Long story short, it's a typical reasoning for a red-shirt. Just not ready for prime time.

Speaking of quarterbacks. Rodriguez announced also today that the starting gig for this weekend is still up in the air. But he also noted that Threet will likely see the bulk of practice time with the 1st team this week. Without going into too much editorializing...I agree with that move.

Updating the recruiting board, adding Pahokee, FL teammates Vincent Smith and Brandon Hawthorne. Long rumored to be pretty high on the Wolverines...Smith is a rather small RB at 5-9, 159. And Brandon Hawthorne is also small but speedy LB. Both three-star recruits.

And, we can finally call it official...Tate Forcier, the 4-star QB from San Diego is also a verbal commit after his first official visit to Ann Arbor over the weekend. You may remember his older brother Jason...backup QB at Michigan just a couple years ago. Tate claimed he wanted to keep his recruitment open even after his visit to AA, but the overwhelming power of the Maize & Blue was too much for him to resist. Here's the ole Rivals link.
